Trainmaster189
So is that true? If so, I would be happy to run the Frecciarossa on Schwaningerland. Link to comment
UP844
It's true, but for some time this will remain a purely theoretical exercise, as there are only very few Frecciarossa capable of running in Germany, whose lines are electrified at 15 kV AC. There is a small number of ETR610 linking various ciities in Northern Italy with Switzerland that can run under 15 kV AC power. Until the recent accident in the Gotthard Basis Tunnel, one of these links continued in Germany up to Frankfurt, but now it is suspended until the tunnel is restored to full capacity. Expanding the services between Italy and Germany will require other trains capable of running under 15 kV AC power: Trenitalia currently operates ETR400 trainsets (Frecciarossa 1000) in France and Spain, but both countries use 25 kV AC power for HS lines and 1.5 or 3 kV for conventional lines, so there was no need for extensive changes to the trains. 1 Link to comment
